I am a pretty novice hiker, so I decided to start my new found hobby of hiking at Forest Park. I am from the Beaverton area, so I thought so would be a good first hike while being convenient. ☺ I also heard some pretty cool things about FP (as a like to call it). For example, Forest Park is the largest city park in the United States. With more than 5000 acres I could potentially explore, I knew I had hit the jackpot with picking this location for my first official hike. Because the park is so large I went here to OutdoorPDX, to find an entrance point, and trail that would best suit me. I started off at the Leif Erikson entry way and hiked for 6 miles reaching about 500 ft in elevation. Along the hike I saw 8 different specifies of birds and caught a spectacular view at the top of the trail, where I could look down at the city and surrounding mountains. I definitely recommend this hike for novices alike, and Outdoorpdx set me up with the information I needed to take on my new hobby. Thank you Outdoorpdx!
